# Projects and permissions

> Choose projects and control your assistant's access.

## Project access

For hosted connections, access starts at your current Sovara role. You can reduce
it or exclude a project. Effective access is limited by both your current role
and the access you share.

| Access | What your assistant can do                                                                      |
| ------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Read   | Search lessons and inspect projects, runs, annotations, issues, and proposals.                  |
| Write  | Create or edit content, annotate runs, request analyses and reruns, and apply lesson proposals. |
| Admin  | Also apply changes to lesson configuration.                                                     |

In [Sovara connections](https://platform.sovara-labs.com/connect), select **Access**
to change projects or permissions, or **Disconnect** to revoke the connection.
Add projects created outside the connection when you want the assistant to use them.

## Allow project creation

Enable **Allow project creation** to let a hosted connection create projects.
It is off by default. Projects created this way are immediately available to the
connection with Admin access.

## Select a project

Name the project in your request, or ask the assistant to list your projects.
Tools accept a full project ID, an exact unique name, or an unambiguous ID prefix.
You can also put your preferred project in the assistant's project instructions.

Knowledge search covers all readable projects. Use `retrieve` to search within
one project.

## Local desktop connections

The local plugin uses your signed-in desktop account and its project permissions.
Signing out prevents further authenticated requests.
